Waikato Luxury Retreat Accommodation near Waitomo Caves
Relax and unwind in affordable luxury accommodation in a private location.
Enjoy our private river swimming pool at the bottom of the front lawn of our cabin, perfect for summer holidays.
Ripples Retreat is centrally located in the North lsland, less than 2 hours from Tauranga, Rotorua, Taupo, Hamilton and New Plymouth and just under 3 hours from Auckland.
The night sky at Ripples Retreat is truly spectacular! It’s situated in one of the few areas in the North Island with exceptionally clear skies, rivaling the famous stargazing spot of Tekapo in the South Island.
Situated on the scenic banks of the Mangaotaki River, Ripples offers a fantastic spot for fishing enthusiasts. Cast your line right from the front lawn, where the river teems with Rainbow and Brown trout, perfect for both fly and spinner fishing. Our fishing season runs from October to June, but just a five-minute drive downriver offers year-round fishing opportunities.
Hours and hours of design planning have gone into creating a romantic getaway that also delivers as luxury family accommodation, and the cabin has been cleverly designed to sleep 5-6 people.
Our guests love the peace, tranquility and attention to detail. There is a reason why Peter Jackson filmed The Hobbit here. It is truly magical!

For a limited time enjoy a complimentary farm tour when you stay for 4 nights or more.
Nestled in the crook of the tranquil Mangaotaki Stream, Ripples Retreat is surrounded by beautiful rolling hills and framed by rugged limestone cliffs. It is one of the most magical romantic getaways NZ has to offer, where you can relax, unwind and reconnect with loved ones.
Created as a romantic couple’s escape, Ripples is intended to be your ultimate retreat where you choose to do as much or as little as you want. Many of our guests arrive with great plans to explore the area, but don’t end up leaving the front gate.
Why? Maybe it’s the double outdoor bath filled in minutes from the gas hot water or the large deck with a cosy roof heater and comfy loungers; or the expansive front lawn surround on 3 sides by the swimmable river and the farmland views beyond.
Family Accommodation for 5-6 People

So we have designed our cabin for 3 extra people in a hidden nook, with its own window and high ceiling. We’ve also thought of families with 4 children and the large window seat can be used as an extra king single bed.
Then there’s all the stuff to keep the family entertained – A double kayak and sea biscuit, giant Jenga, Petanque, frisbees, puzzles, games, books as well as the following features.
