Mad Campers have been thoughtfully designed to optimize your travel experience with a high quality, innovative and functional fit out to help you get the most out of your NZ Campervan hire.
We’re really proud to offer added extras such as an extendable hose tap, a switch board controlling your electrics from the back of the camper, and our innovative design that provides you with HEAPS more living space!
Because we have in-house mechanics, we have complete confidence in all our vehicles, and should anything ever go wrong we have the knowledge and expertise to fix it quickly! It is imperative to us that any problems are resolved immediately so that you can get back on the road – and your holiday!
Examples of our MAD service:
- Freedom Camping / Self Contained – It’s really important to us that you can travel as you please in our great land, so the MAD EXPLORER, MAD2 and MAD1 are all compliant with the 2017 Freedom Camping laws and regulations. We are also really proud to be a member of the NZ Motorhomes Association.
- Camper induction – to help you make the most of your vehicle, we take the time to make sure you understand your camper and everything it has to offer.
- Driver training session – among other things, we drive on the left side of the road here in NZ, so we spend some time making sure you are comfortable and confident to hit the road.
- 24-hour roadside assistance – we’ve got your back no matter where you are.
- Heaps of extra’s – because your comfort is REALLY important to us, we’ve made sure there’s heaps of extra’s packed into your camper. We provide a fully functional kitchen, all bedding, Bluetooth radio, LED lighting, car alarms and more!
- Unlimited Miles – get off the beaten track and go as far as you can while on holiday!

MAD EXPLORER – 2 Berth – Certified Self-Contained
The MAD EXPLORER is the ultimate NZ freedom camping solution! It is the best and newest camper on the market, providing an unbeatable experience. Whether you’re heading to the mountains, the beach, or the great outdoors, this camper will make your journey a breeze!

- We’ve designed the Explorer so the bed is always made up – meaning you don’t have the hassle of constantly setting up and taking down your sleeping area, and you can enjoy separate dining and sleeping areas at the same time. Perfect if you like the occasional sleep in and are travelling with an early riser!

Road User Charge Recovery Fee
The Road User Charge Recovery Fee is payable on diesel vehicles upon vehicle return. The Road User Charge Recovery Fee will be calculated and collated on return of the campervan based on the kilometres travelled during the hire.

- Innovative use of space allowing access from the side AND rear of the van!
- A secondary battery with so you can listen to music, run the fridge and charge your electronics
- LED lighting so you can see what you are cooking or lay in bed reading
- USB power points so you can plug in your music and charge your phone
- Curtains so you choose when to let the light in
- Food grade plumbing to ensure your water always tastes fresh
- All campers have key less entry

MAD1 – Solo Traveller – Certified Self-Contained
Comfort of a Camper. Convenience of a Car. There are a multitude of reasons people choose to travel alone – and here at Mad Campers we respect them all. In fact we’ve gone a step further and created New Zealand’s FIRST single berth self- contained campervan especially for our solo adventurers!
We are incredibly proud of our fit outs which boast:
- A fully functional kitchenette with fridge, sink, LPG 2 burner cooker, pots, pans, utensils, salt, pepper, oil and dishwashing liquid
- Extendable hose tap so you can wash your dishes after dinner… and your feet after the beach

THE MAD ADVENTURER
Hit the road on a Mad Kiwi Adventure. We’ve introduced the MAD ADVENTURER to our fleet and are pumped about it!! Designed to take you comfortably from campsite to campsite (and EVERYWHERE in between) the MAD ADVENTURER is our only non-self-contained vehicle – meaning it doesn’t have a toilet on board.

- A fully functional kitchenette with fridge, sink, LPG 2 burner gas cooker, pots & pans and utensils, salt, pepper, oil and dishwashing liquid
- A super comfy and spacious roof top Tent (Width 140cm, Length 200cm, Open Height 100cm, Closed Height 33.5cm, Capacity 2 people)
- Our tents provide comfortable space for adults to sit upright in either end of the tent. Offer full 360º panoramic windows, allowing air to circulate freely though the tent in warmer climates. The tent can be opened and closed in less than 1 minute by one person.
