This elegant 2-story cliff-top Holiday Home is located at the Pakanae end of Opononi, on the stunning Hokianga Harbour, and features quality decor & extensive uninterrupted elevated water views.

Both floors are self-contained, each including 3 bedrooms, lounge, kitchen facilities, dining table, bathroom/laundry/toilet & bbq – with the two floors connected by an internal staircase.

This makes Onepu Moana an ideal property for corporate retreats, extended families, multiple couples, and families with teenagers needing their own space.

Hokianga Harbour is the birthplace of Aotearoa NZ! This is where Polynesian explorer Kupe built the first Maori Pa (village) on the hill next to this property, with the anchor stone from his waka (canoe) honoured at the local Marae (community house), and also the esteemed Tane Mahuta God of Waipoua Forest is nearby.

This west-coast Hokianga location is just over an hour’s drive from the east-coast Bay of Islands, which is the heart of Maori-European history. If you want to visit the Bay of Islands, but don’t want to stay in that “tourist mecca” the west coast is divine to chill out in.

‘Must Do’ activities in the area include a twilight tour with local Maori guide to visit Tane Mahuta in Waipoua Forest, visiting the “MANEA Footprints of Kupe” multi-sensory experience, surfing the sand-dunes, seeing the extraordinary Wairere Boulders, Eggs Bene brunch at BoatShed Cafe deck in Rawene, a beer on the deck of the iconic Opononi Tavern, enjoying a great local Northland chardonnay on the deck of the Heads Hotel in Omapere, plus swimming, fishing, kayaking, jet-skiing, walking treks and cycle trails. So much!

Onepu Moana is a 1970s house that’s been fully renovated and extensively refurbished.

Upstairs is a 3-bedroom home with entertainer’s kitchen and open-plan lounge with 8-seater dining-table, leading out to a large deck with 10-seater table, recliners, BBQ and uninterrupted water views.

Walking down the internal set of stairs, downstairs is another self-contained 3-bedroomed ‘apartment’ on the ground-floor with generous kitchenette, roomy lounge, 8-seater dining-table, and outside terrace off the kitchen with Spa Pool, another BBQ, octagonal wooden table, and some pretty lovely water views.

If you want a holiday house right on the beach, surrounded closely by lots of other holiday houses, then this is not the place for you. But if you want a feeling of quality, privacy, and uninterrupted elevated clifftop views, in a location less than a mile to the local beach, then Onepu Moana (“sandy sea”) could be perrrrfect.
