On this tour, you will taste a selection of wines from Banks Peninsula’s prominent vineyard. You will discover how the geology of the area contributes to the flavour of those unique wines.
The scenic beauty of this area is breathtaking as we stop “A la French” to enjoy a glass with a view, you will learn the history of the original French settlers and how they planted their first vines in this unique terroir, creating today the distinctive flavours from our region.
Enjoy wine tastings with delicious locally-made seasonal accompaniments including our award-winning local cheeses. If you are a wine connoisseur, then this tour is a must-do while you are in the area.

A Taste of Akaroa
Explore Akaroa Harbour’s hidden treasures while learning about our unique history and geology as we visit some of our local award-winning wine producers and take in the tranquil surroundings and gorgeous vistas as we go.
Banks Peninsula has many small boutique organic wine producers and it is inside the cosy French Peak cellar door or on a nice sunny day in a lovely courtyard overlooking the vineyard where you will taste some of their organic wines.
Tasting of French Peak Wines include:
- Pinot Noir
- Pinot Gris
- Gewürztraminer
- Rose
- Chardonnay
- Tasting platter of local produce to accompany the tasting – smoked salmon, cheeses, pates from local butcher and other local seasonal produce.
- Optional walk through French Peak Vineyard to learn all about bio-dynamic techniques, soil health and organic growing on the Banks Peninsula.
Other stops include:
- Gin tasting at the Akaroa Gin distillery to open your pallet to Banks Peninsula natural plants.
- Visit to the Old French Road Olive Grove and see what it takes to produce award-winning olive oil and other products.
- Scenic photo stops and commentary as we go.
