Experiences are available from our “Braided Shallows” departure point just 15 minutes north of Christchurch in the Waimakariri Regional Park, or our “Canyon Safaris” departure point 50 minutes west of Christchurch 651 Rubicon Road, Springfield.

Canyon Safaris Departure Point
ADVENTURE SAFARI: A 20 minute tour through the rugged foothills of the Southern Alps. Full commentary, Hamilton spins, great photo opportunities of the Waimakariri River Canyon. (Usual departure 2.30pm). Ex river Adult $80.00 Child $60.00. Min 2 Adults. Family Pass 2 Adults and up to 3 children $280.00 ex river (not to be used in conjunction with any other offer).
WILDERNESS SAFARI: A 2 hour experience exploring deep into the Waimakariri Canyon. It’s a history tour with interesting commentary as well as an adventurous jet boating experience. A short walk and morning or afternoon tea is included. (Usual departure 9.30am or 1.30pm). Min 4 Adults. Ex river Adult $260.00 Child $200.00.
QUAD BIKE & JET BOAT COMBO
A fantastic mix of jet boating, and self-drive quad biking. Travel with Adventure Trail Rides for 60 minutes over the 10,000 hectare Mt Torlesse Station and view the Canterbury Plains from the many vantage points. Then experience the wonder of the mighty Waimakariri River onboard our jet boat for a 60 minute Canyon Safari. Stunning photo opportunities and full commentary. An added option can include a delicious lunch. Morning or afternoon tours available. All tours are guided and training instruction is given before tours depart. ALPINE HELI JET: GCH Aviation will fly you from their base at Christchurch Airport to our jet boat launching point at Springfield, Canterbury, for a 20 minute Adventure Safari in our jet boat through the fantastic scenery provided by the Waimakariri Canyon. Braided Shallows Departure Point
AIRBLAST: Experience the sensation of skimming over wet stones in a genuine American style Airboat in Air Force 2. 20 minutes. The only Airboat in New Zealand. (Usual departure 9.30am or 3.30pm). Ex river Adult $80.00 Child $60.00. Min 2 Adults.
BRAIDED BLAST: Squeeze some excitement into your day! 20 minutes of jet boating on one of New Zealand’s most challenging and exciting rivers – the Waimakariri. Experience the thrills that only jet boating can offer – skim the shallows, spin in your own length, feel the power of our Hamilton jets. Our skilled drivers are highly experienced and our purpose built boats are carefully maintained. No-one knows the Waimakariri like ‘Alpine Jet Thrills’! (Usual departure 10.00am or 3.00pm). JET TREK: Experience ‘Horsepower’ from 1 to 300! The ‘Jet Trek’ combines an easy 60 minute horseback ride through farm land and river bed tracks with 20 minutes of jet boating adventure, in our 300HP Hamilton Jet boats on the Braided Shallows of the Waimakariri River. ‘Alpine Jet Thrills’ and ‘Waimak River Riding School’ combine their talents to allow this fun tour. Allow 3.5 hours from city centre and return. (Usual departure from WRRS 8.45am or 1.45pm) Min 2 Adults. Ex river Adult $160.00 Child $140.00.
HELI JET: The ultimate adventure trip begins with a snappy flight from GCH Aviation’s base out to the banks of the Waimakariri River where you will be met by your driver guide for our 20 minute Braided Blast up the Braided Shallows of the Waimakariri in the ‘ Alpine Jet Thrills’ Hamilton Jet boat. Once back on solid ground it’s off again for the second half of your scenic helicopter flight over Christchurch City and back to base. (Usual departure from GCH Aviation 9.45am or 2.45pm) Min 2 Adults. Ex Heliport Adult $385 Child $365.00.
- Pre-schoolers aged 2 – 4 are free and must be accompanied by an adult.
- Children are aged 5 – 15 and must be accompanied by an adult.
- Minimum of 2 adults required for booking, unless otherwise stated.
- Transfers from the City area can be arranged at extra cost. Pickups from accommodation or from outside Christchurch Museum. Dress warmly. Hats, gloves and spray jackets are available for all passengers but due to COVID 19 it is best if you bring your own.
