Mt Taranaki (or Mt Egmont) dominates the landscape of this region. Standing at 2518 metres high, the mountain is one of the most symmetrical volcanic cones in the world. Mountain based visitor activities include skiing, snowboarding, alpine walks, mountaineering and rock climbing.

Manganui is a unique North Island mountain experience, located in the Egmont National Park on the slopes of Mt Taranaki. It is a club skifield operated by the Stratford Mountain Club.
About the Taranaki region 
Taranaki's main city is New Plymouth. New Pymouth is a coastal city with a mountain within 30 minutes drive, so residents and visitors to New Plymouth can snowboard, ski, water ski and surf all in the same day. The city provides visitors with museums and art galleries which tell stories of the regions rich Maori history.
Notable features of the city are the Len Lye designed 45 metre tall (148 ft) artwork known as the Wind Wand, and the 10km coastal walkway alongside the Tasman Sea. New Plymouth's stunning parks and gardens are popular visitor attractions, and the Taranaki region annually hosts New Zealand's Rhododendron and WOMAD Festivals.
The Taranaki region is known as 'big wave territory' with some of the country's best surfing spots found off it's coastline.

The Forgotten World Highway between Stratford and Taumarunui is a 'must do' route for for travellers, a highlight being the "Republic of Whangamomona".
