Hawke's Bay (NZ) Travel Guide
The Hawkes Bay is one of New Zealand's most recognised wine producing regions. Because of the long, hot summers and cool winters, the region offers the best weather for growing grapes. The Hawke's Bay is also renowned for its horticulture with large orchards, wineries and vineyards on the plains.
The regions mild climate makes it an all round holiday destination. Unpopulated, unpolluted white sandy beaches dot the coastline, and fishing and water sports are popular recreational activities.
Napier and Hastings are popular tourist cities in this region, and Napier's Art Deco rebuild after the devastating earthquake in 1931 has attracted visitors to the city for its architecture popular of the time. Napier is also the home of New Zealands National Aquarium, and is an ideal holiday destination for families offering a wide range of activities for all ages.
Havelock North is situated at the base of the prominent landmark Te Mata Peak on the Heretaunga Plains. Locally known as "the village", the town has a reputation for its orchards, vineyards, and educational facilities.
Cape Kidnappers is home to the largest mainland gannet colony in the world, and the world renowned Cape Kidnappers Golf Course.
