Auckland - the 'City of Sails' aptly named as it has more yachts per capita than any other city in the world, and is New Zealands largest city.
Auckland City sits on the Waitemata Harbour, so many tourist activities in the city are water based. The 'Sky Tower' at 328 metres (1,076 ft) dominates the city skyline and visitors are able to get a 360° view of the region from the top.
Auckland is broken up in to 5 regions - North, South, East, West and Central. Each region is unique and all have stunning beaches and diverse activities. West Auckland is the home of the Waitakere Ranges, which is covered in native forest and nearby rugged West Coast Beaches. North Auckland features the Hibiscus Coast which boasts many beaches and great fishing. South Auckland is the gateway into Auckland with its world class international airport.
Auckland straddles the Auckland Volcanic Field, which has produced about 50 volcanoes, all of which are now extinct. These volcanoes are reflected in Aucklands landscape, where many of these volcanoes are accessible to the public for recreation, and viewing points of the city.
Auckland Airport is a major airline hub in New Zealand and there are many domestic and international flights to NZ destinations for visitors to continue on to.
