The Helicopter Line, Mt Cook

The Helicopter Line is privileged to be able to offer Heli-hiking on both the Franz Josef and Tasman Glaciers.

Franz Josef Glacier is 12km (7.45mi) long and fed by a massive 20 square km (7.7 sq mi) snowfield at the top of the Southern Alps. It features ice pinnacles as high as multi-story buildings, deep crevasses and stunning, pristine blue ice. It’s all on show and the most dynamic glacier in New Zealand is accessible to you via one of the most exhilarating experiences in the world. 

The Tasman Glacier is the largest of several glaciers which flow south and east towards the Mackenzie Basin from the Southern Alps in New Zealand’s South Island. At 27km (17mi) in length, Tasman Glacier is New Zealand’s longest glacier. It is as much as 4km (2.5mi) wide and 600m (2,000ft) thick, and lies entirely within the borders of Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park. The glacier covers an area of 101 square km (39 sq mi) and starts at a height of 3,000m (9,800 ft) above sea level.

Flights are seasonal and run from 1st Nov to 30th Sept.
