Paramata Lodge, South Westland
Paramata Lodge offers luxury accommodation 35km south of Hokitika in a wilderness location by the beach and situated between some of the West Coast's best-known attractions: Franz Josef Glacier, Punakaiki pancake rocks, Okarito kiwi and Whataroa white heron nesting sites.
Individually appointed guest bedrooms have mountain to sea views, luxury superking/king size beds and large contemporary ensuite bathrooms. Enjoy extensive private indoor and outdoor space, artworks and handcrafted design features. Choose to dine, and the exquisite local cuisine and accompanying quality NZ wines will add to your delectation.
Beside the lodge the Kakapotahi Ecological Reserve and miles of remote sandy beach can be explored at leisure. Or a guided tour, walking or by boat, uncovers the history, ecology, birdlife and conservation of this peaceful and beautiful place.
Westland Luxury Accommodation
All three guest rooms are positioned for sun and mountain to sea views with spacious ensuites and naturally blended décor. Sink into the deep ensuite bath designed for stargazing at the Southern Hemisphere sky or watch the Pukeko feed their young from your bedroom window.
In the morning, whether it's mist sneaking around the hills or massive breakers exploding onto the beach, the guestroom views are like personalised shows. You'll want to linger and watch, but fresh coffee and baked bread aromas drift from the kitchen.
Breakfast and dinner are served in the dining area where the large bifold doors open out onto a deck taking in the natural scene. While breakfast is cooking, the open plan kitchen enables you to observe and talk with Kathy as she works.
Two to three nights at this boutique hotel are recommended to fully enjoy the wildlife and beauty around the lodge and to have time to visit other Westland scenic attractions.

Tours & Activities
A short walk from the lodge into the Kakapotahi Ecological Reserve and you can sense what much of New Zealand was like before European settlement. Walk the sandy beach or borrow the canoes to explore the coastal creeks alone. Alternatively join a guided nature tour for 2 - 5 hours for in-depth interpretation of the ancient coastal forest and rare protected wetlands. The history, from early Maori times, is also uniquely interesting.
Eight different tour locations are available for Paramata Lodge guided tours, to suit special interests and fitness levels. Three fishing rivers for trout and salmon (in season) are within five kilometres and Paramata Lodge is the closest luxury accommodation to La Fontaine Stream.
For day trips from the lodge you can visit three National Parks, including Franz Josef Glacier and Punakaiki pancake rocks. There are scenic hikes, trout fishing, bird tours including the rare brown kiwi in the wild, horse treks, flights and heli-hikes. The Hokitika township is 30 minutes drive away with cafes, bars, tourist shops and a shopping centre with local specialities.
