We are one of a small few who are authorised by DOC (Department of Conservation) as a licensed operator on the Whanganui River.

We are the closest operator to the start of the Whanganui River journeys, based in Owhango.

We have qualified Cultural Navigators waiting to share their homelands and their stories as you traverse the Whanganui River and all its uniqueness it has to offer. Transport is provided to and from the Whanganui River.

We are ideally located in the central Ruapehu Region and surrounded by scenic bush and the Whanganui River and Whakapapa Rivers on our doorstep.

We welcome you as you embark on your journey with us ‘the tangata whenua’ (People of the land).

Born and bred on the banks of the Whanganui River, we have a cultural experience waiting to share with you in our backyard.

Please enquire about our FREE ACCOMMODATION special prior to departure in one of our lodges here in Owhango. This allows you to relax pack your barrels and be ready for an early start to your journey.

If required Owhango Lodge has a fully licensed bar for you to enjoy. We also have a cafe that operates from 8am – 4 pm daily. Our lodge is self-catering, bring your own food and sleeping gear, access to shared facilities in the Lodge and Hotel.
