Kakaramea Guesthouse and Bed & Breakfast, Pirongia
Our guesthouse is located on Kakaramea Road (Highway 39), about 1 kilometre north of the village of Pirongia, and surrounded by tall native and deciduous trees, situated amidst lush dairy farmland.
First built in the mid-1940s, extensions were made in the late 1970s and renovated more recently. The house lies beneath the outreaches of Mt. Pirongia.
Guests can enjoy the warmth of the open fire in the large lounge room, while enjoying a drink at the bar. All bedrooms have heating in winter. There is an upstairs Games-room, with the invitation to play Cards, Darts, and/or Pool, Snooker and Billiards. A BBQ facility is available, and a laundry service is provided on request.
A paddock is available for overnight agistment.
Kakaramea Guest House and B&B provides friendly, non-discriminatory accommodation for guests from all walks of life and everyone is warmly welcomed.

We also cater for small corporate meetings (hui). A private area can be set aside with seating for up to 8 people. Morning tea, and home-cooked lunches can be provided with notice. Dietary needs are catered. Quotes can be given on what is required.
Local Attractions
Mt. Pirongia is abundant with native flora and wild-life. It has several bush-hikes, one with an overnight hut-stay, that transverse the 3 ranges. The village itself, has a number of historic Maori landmarks, including Purekireki Marae (a meeting venue for local Maori people 2 kilometres south of the village), Cafes, Grocery store, a Hotel-tavern and a Heritage Information Centre.
The local Bowling Club welcomes playing visitors. Pirongia Golf Club plays 18 holes, and is located between us and the village. Ngahinapouri golf Club is 5 minutes north (we have clubs for hire).
The nearest town, Te Awamutu, lies 10kms to the east. Hamilton, the fourth largest city in New Zealand, is 28kms to the north, and 2 kilometres south of this city, is Temple View. Here, there are a number of spectacular spired structures that present as a unique tourist attraction.
The black-sands of the Kawhia (Te Puia hot-springs on Ocean Beach) and Raglan (a renown New Zealand surfing venue) harbours, are some 40 minutes away by car, and the Waitomo Glow-worm Caves are 30 minutes to the south. And nearby, on Oparure Road is Glowing Adventures managed by Michelle, Stefan & Heath. You can call in to Kiwi (native bird sanctuary) House at Otorohanga on your way there or back.
We are approximately 2 and a 1/2 hours away from the National Park Snowfields (Mts. Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe, and Tongariro).
Auckland airport is 90 minutes north, and Hamilton airport 20 minutes east, which is adjacent to the Mystery Creek Field Day events held in June of each year.
Hobbiton, located near the town of Matamata, is 30 minutes further on to the north-east.
Karamu Trail Track that offers horse riding treks and canoeing, is some 10 minutes to the north west.
Vilagrad Winery is 8 minutes drive away to the northeast on Rukuhia road. It has a Wine, Dine, and Dance event on Friday nights, Sunday Luncheons, as well as arranged Tours and Tastings. The fragrance of Alphra Lavenders is about 20 minutes to our east.
