New Zealand Hiking Tours & Guided Walks
New Zealand is full of stunning forests and walking tracks. Te Araroa - New Zealand's Trail (managed by the NZ government) is a continuous 3,000 km walking track from Cape Reinga at the top of the North Island to Bluff, the bottom of the South Island. The trail is a mix of tracks, including wilderness tracks, paths through paddocks, beaches, roads, and highways, as well as a section which is a river and must be kayaked. Many parts of the trail are challenging. In these sections, trip planning, river crossing and navigation skills are recommended, as well as a good level of fitness and heavy boots.
You can tackle the track yourself, but to make the most of the scenery and points of interest a tour guide is recommended.
Some of the great walks of New Zealand include:
- Tongariro Northern Circuit
- Lake Waikaremoana Great Walk
- Whanganui Journey
- The Coromandel Peninsula
- Milford Track
- Routeburn Track
- Kepler Track
- Abel Tasman Coastal Track
- Heaphy Track
- Raikura Track
