Respect is paid to our fishing grounds around the Coromandel at all times, our crews consistently explore and scout new king fish locations to ease as much pressure on fish stocks as possible. We have lower limit allowances for our crews of just one Kingfish per client. With intimate knowledge of breeding and behavioural habits of the fish that live in and pass through our waters, crews fish mindfully of each individual species. Sustainability is at the forefront of our business model and we aim to protect a healthy fishery for future generations. We work closely with NIWA and assist where we can in any research to ascertain accurate breeding and migratory stats of New Zealand Kingfish and other species.
Once over the Kopu – Hikuai Road you soon reach Tairua, where you really start to get the real sense that the holiday has begun. Tairua is scattered with holiday homes and motels, there’s a small local super market, a handful of funky shops, cafés and the local pub all bordering the western side of the estuary. 2 minutes down the road is Tairua beach, 2 kilometers of sandy surf beach. The quieter winter months are far removed from any sort of hustle and bustle and over summer holiday periods the Tairua population increases by almost 10 fold and there’s a real buzz of excitement around this time of year. A new marina in the estuary is a great addition and everything combined makes this cosy wee town a great playground for visitors all year round.
Whitianga is the tourism centre of the Coromandel with some world class accommodation and attractions such as the Lost Spring day spa complete with thermal fed pools with waterfalls and massage rooms perched up in huts amongst the trees (great for the ladies while the boys are out on the boat!) lots of fun in around town for the kids too including fun zone, animal parks, mini putt, swimming holes and paint-ball all just minutes drive from town.
Whitianga is also home to Mercury bay and the hub of recreational fishing activity on the Coromandel peninsula too. It’s position half way up the peninsula make it an attractive home base to reach a vast range of pumping fishing spots and puts you in short driving distance of world famous beaches and bays such as hot water beach and cathedral cove, as well as some world class bush walks also easily accessible from here. Whitianga boasts a bit more night life with restaurants and bars open late.
Just to make your trip that little bit more EPIC. We’ve teamed up with Shimano and selected the best range of gear suited to our EPIC style of fishing.
