Your Gateway
to Adventure on Lake Tarawera...
The Landing Café offers a casual lakeside dining experience
featuring the magnificent backdrop of Mt Tarawera towering above
a beautiful sandy beach front.
The Landing
is the perfect location to share a gourmet pizza and creative cuisine
accompanied by a great range of New Zealand wines, beers and refreshments
from our Garden Bar.
The area where
The Landing is situated is rich in early New Zealand history, being
the original departure point during the 19th Century for journeys
to the famous Pink and White Terraces.
Sadly, the terraces
were destroyed during the massive eruption of Mount Tarawera on
the 10th June 1886. The area was also home to the Maori village
of Te Wairoa and the people of Te Arawa.
Within a short
distance from The Landing you will find the Tarawera Orchard where
you can view early traditional Maori rock paintings and is also
a beautiful venue for weddings and functions. Take a stroll down
a short track to the Te Wairoa stream mouth, known for its great
early morning winter fly-fishing.
The Landing
offers various options and activities to explore the region including
luxury cruises with Clearwater Cruises, fishing charters, water
taxi services, self drive boats, kayak tours and pedal boat hire.
You will find a ticketing office for various activities in the area
and a general store for everyday essentials at The Landing.
