Southern
Alps Air has been operating in the Southern Lakes Region since 1975,
the pilots and contact staff are experienced, friendly and professional.
Originally based in Makarora (the home of Siberia Experience) Southern
Alps Air now offers scenic flights from Wanaka as well as Makarora.
The
route to Milford Sound from Wanaka takes you over the township of
Wanaka and across the beautiful Lake Wanaka, past Treble Cone Ski
Field before entering into a wild wilderness of glaciers, snow,
rugged mountain scenes and acres of rain forest. The flight route
takes in chunks of Mt Aspiring and Fiordland World Heritage National
Parks.
There
are literally dozens of glaciers enroute scattered amongst the Southern
Alps and always one of the highlights is the 3030 metre Matterhorn
of the South - Mt Aspiring.
Flight
options include:
Milford Sound & Cruise: Fly the full length of Milford
Sound before landing and taking in the views from the water on the
1hr 45 minute smaller scenic boat cruise. Re-board the plane to
take a different route back to Wanaka
Milford
Fly Over: Same as above without scenic boat cruise
Mt
Aspiring: Take in awe aspiring views of Mt Aspiring and glaciers.
Mt
Cook: A breath taking flight following the Southern Alps right
to New Zealand's highest peak of 3753. Enjoy views of Mt Cook &
Westland World Heritage National Parks including Franz, Fox and
Tasman Glaciers.
All
of our Cessna Aircraft are purposely built for Scenic Flights allowing
window seats for all passengers with unobstructed viewing.

scenic 30 minute trip back to Makarora.

from Makarora on SH6, 1 hour from Haast or 45 minutes from Wanaka.
