Local Attractions
Come for 1 night, 2 nights, a week or longer and find something
different to do every day. Many of our guests remark how varied
and interesting our attractions are, and how more plentiful they
are, then more widely known areas in Northland.
Leave or arrive
in Auckland airport, and you will find we are the ideal place to
spend your first or last few days. Historic Mansion House, the former
residence, on Kawau Island, of New Zealand's first Governor General
- Governor Grey, has been beautifully restored and is the focus
of a great day doing the Mail Run aboard the very comfortable Kawau
Kat catamaran, with plenty of time for swims, or walks to the abandoned
copper mine or over the island.
Or do the Heritage
Trail around the picturesque town of Warkworth, which has just enjoyed
its Sesquicentenary Celebrations.
Visit the restored
Scotts Point Homestead in the beautiful Mahurangi East Park, the
centre of a thriving Boat Building industry 150 years ago, with
the local virgin forests supplying many of the Spars for the great
post-Nelson European Fleets of sailing ships.
