Wellington Return Tourist Route Itinerary

This itinerary incorporates only the North Island of New Zealand. The arrival point of this itinerary is Wellington where you can pick up your rental vehicle.
Just a short drive from Wellington is the Wairarapa region. Activities in this region feature vineyards at Martinborough, Cape Palliser Seal Colony, the peaks of the Rimutaka Ranges and the Paua Shell Factory at Carterton. Masterton is the main centre of the region and is famous for its annual Golden Shears shearing competition.
From here travel to the Taranaki region which is dominated by Mt Taranaki (Mt Egmont). Taranaki's main city is New Plymouth. New Pymouth is a coastal city with a mountain within 30 minutes drive, so residents and visitors to New Plymouth can snowboard, ski, water ski and surf all in the same day. The city provides visitors with museums and art galleries which tell stories of the regions rich Maori history.
This itinerary takes you through the Central Plateau region and the Tongariro National Park where you can visit Mt Ruapehu. Not far away is your next stop Taupo, home of the country's largest lake. Travel south down the centre of the island to the Rangitikei area before returning to Wellington for your final stop. Wellington Airport caters for both domestic and international travellers.
