This two week itinerary incorporates only the South Island of New Zealand. The arrival point of this itinerary is the Canterbury region. From Christchurch take the Tranz Alpine train to Greymouth on the West Coast where you can pick up your rental vehicle. From Greymouth you can drive to Westport.
This route then continues on to the Nelson/Tasman region where you can include the Abel Tasman National Park in your trip. Next travel to the East Coast to the Marlborough wine region, home to the Marlborough Food & Wine Festival, NZ's longest running and most popular wine festival.
Next visit Kaikoura, famous for whale watching, crayfish (rock lobster) and it's diverse wildlife, then on to the village of Hanmer Springs, New Zealand’s premier alpine and spa destination.
This route finishes by returning to the Canterbury region where both national and international flights are available from the recently refurbished Christchurch Airport.
