This itinerary incorporates only the South Island of New Zealand. The arrival point of this itinerary is the Canterbury region where you can pick up your rental vehicle. From here, take the scenic route south to Dunedin, then onto Southland.
This itinerary then takes you into the world famous Fiordland area, followed by the Queenstown/Southern Lakes District and on to Wanaka/Lake Hawea. Head up to the West Coast region which incorporates Westport, Greymouth, Hokitika and Franz Josef & Fox Glaciers. This route then continues on to the Nelson/Tasman region where you can include the Abel Tasman National Park in your trip. Next travel to the East Coast to Marlborough Wine Country, visit Kaikoura, famous for whale watching, then on to the alpine village of Hanmer Springs.
