Local Info
Waimarama lies 30km south of Hastings. This is a lovely quiet spot with a long stretch of beach perfect for walks, good fishing, nice bushwalks and amazing views. Head up to the hills for stunning views of the beach and ocean. Bare Island is situated just off the coast and is ever-changing as the light of the different seasons plays with its features.
The area has a strong Maori heritage and guided tours can be arranged. This area is educational in that it shows people the culture of the Maori with flax weaving, eels, musical instruments & the use of war weapons (clubs & taiaha, games & how they were used in the past.
