Waikava Harbour View is a spacious four-bedroom lodge, providing high quality accommodation for domestic and international visitors to the Catlins and South Catlins areas.
The open-plan kitchen, dining and living room all have outstanding views of the Waikawa harbour and open out onto a large deck off the lounge or into the conservatory off the kitchen.
The interior is modern with new furnishings and is fully equipped including dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer, stove, water filter, TV, DVD, with separate bathroom and laundry facilities.
Waikava Harbour View has carpet throughout and the central heating keeps it cosy all year round.
Waikava Harbour View offers four bedrooms - queen with ensuite, queen with sofa-bed, 2 twin (single-bed) bedrooms, double sofa-bed in lounge. A portable cot is available.
Waikava Harbour View has a panoramic view of the Waikawa Harbour from the kitchen, dining room, lounge and conservatory areas as well as from the large deck outside. The harbour is framed by native bush along the water edge and fishing boats can be seen in the distance at the Waikawa wharf.
Harakeke / Toi Tois - Now available are two one bedroom units - Harakeke and Toi Tois. The units are situated beside the Waikava Harbour View lodge and have uninterrupted views of the Waikawa harbour. Wake to the birdsong of Tui and Bellbird and watch Pukeko ducking through the native bush, flax and tussock.
Both units are self contained offering full kitchen facilities and modern amenities, with outside decks and seating. FreeView TV offers 9 channels and there is a DVD player with a selection of DVD's for your entertainment. In addition to the queen sized bed there is a super comfortable double sofa bed in the lounge allowing for a maximum of four guests.
Harakeke is suitably designed for wheelchair access with a ramp up to the unit and amenities to ensure ease of access and comfort. Guests are assured of a warm cosy stay with our very efficient gas heating system.
The Catlins Coast
There is an abundance of native wildlife in the bush and around the coast in Waikawa. Of outstanding importance along the Catlins coast is the Hoiho (Yellow-eyed Penguin) - the world's rarest penguin - which nest around the Curio Bay and Waikawa area.

Waikava Harbour View is close to many southern scenic attractions. Sights to see south of Waikawa include;
- Porpoise Bay (Whaka Aihe) – home to the Hector Dolphins and a safe swimming and surfing beach.
- Curio Bay (Tuma Tuka) - famous for its unique jurassic fossilised forest with exposed tree stumps and logs visible at low tide.
- Waipohatu Recreation Area – walking track and picnic area at the edge of the Waikawa Forest.
- Slope Point (Mata Tonga) – the most southerly point of the South Island of New Zealand.
- Waipapa Point - scene of one of New Zealand’s worst marine disasters with the sinking of the SS Tararua on April 29, 1881 and the Waipapa Point lighthouse - able to be viewed today.
- Sights to see north of Waikawa include;
- Niagara Falls (Mangai Piri) – small waterfalls on the Waikawa River.
- Cathedral Caves, Chaslands Beach – spectacular caves that can only be viewed at low tide.
- McLean Falls – 40 minute return walk through podocarp forest to waterfalls.
