The Sandcastle Seaview Accommodation offers self- contained chalets in Pohara Golden Bay, set in a peaceful gardens and native bush.
Golden Bay is located between The Kahurangi and Abel Tasman National Parks at the top of the South Island. All of the stunning scenery, beaches, walks and attractions of the bay are just a short distance away from your chalet.
Take time and explore our site and you will find 'The Sandcastle' is unique. You will find our accommodation is excellent value, with use of sauna and spa complex included in the price. Please note, 'The Sandcastle' is a popular place to stay so we do recommend booking early.
Pohara Chalets
Our chalets are immediately welcoming. The furniture is handcrafted wood with many original features. They are easily warmed and insulated while the sun streams in during the afternoon. The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas hob, refrigerator, microwave and everything you need to prepare a meal. The queen-size bed overlooks the deck onto the gardens and sea beyond.
All the linen and towels are provided and there is a separate bathroom. Room service is daily and if ordered breakfast can be brought to the deck of your chalet.
Children or friends can have a separate bedroom in 4 of our chalets. Also, we have a cot and high chair.
Services
Spa and Sauna Complex - Tucked in the bush is our recently renovated Sauna and Spa complex. All the features you would expect are found here. Hot shower, change area and a very chilly plunge pool. The water in our spa is cleaned by ozone and guests appreciate that very little chemical is necessary.
Much care has been taken to create restful surroundings with plants, indoor pond and local art.
- Breakfasts - You can arrange breakfast to be brought to your chalet. They are good value, often including our own fresh produce.
- Laundry with 2 top loading machines and dryer. Outside the Laundry is a culinary herb garden. There is also a freezer for your use. You are welcome to use the clothes line for drying.
- BBQ. A gas BBQ with a large table and seating. A great place to gather in the evening.
Golden Bay Garden Tour - The gardens have been created to take advantage of natural features within the valley. This allows wide views to the sea and Northern Rata covered limestone cliffs at Pohara. Many native trees have been planted to attract birds. It seems to work, as the dawn chorus can be over-whelming. Tuis, kereru (NZ pigeon), kingfishers, fantails and bellbirds are often seen.
Should you stroll in the grounds you will find a tranquil pond, local sculpture, an olive grove, orchards, kitchen garden and much else. There is even a small herb garden by the laundry for your use.The gardens are very safe for the children as we are a long way from the main road, and they can enjoy a forest play area with a sand pit and rope swing. A BBQ with a large table and seating is great for families and parties.
Finally, at night, view the spectacular southern night sky and listen out for the Morepork (native owl) from your deck.
