Rotorua Duck Tours
Rotorua Duck Tours has been providing amphibious sightseeing and history tours of Rotorua since 2003. With 16 magnificent lakes in the Rotorua region, there is no shortage of places to visit. On a guided tour with us you will experience the thrill of riding in an authentic WWII amphibious craft, affectionately known as a "duck", view spectacular scenery and "splashdown" into pristine lakes.
Our experienced Conducktor will bring Rotorua alive by retelling the most famous stories and legends of the past, as well as providing information about: local flora and fauna; the many natural and cultural landmarks viewed along the way; and the history of Rotorua from early settlement until today. Choose one of our popular lake tours for a GREAT INTRODUCTION TO ROTORUA, its HISTORY and its PEOPLE and a fun, unique way to see Rotorua.
Rotorua Duck Tours has two tours available, the very popular Rotorua City and Lakes Tour (90 min) and the all new Tarawera and Lakes Tour (120 min).
Rotorua City & Lakes Tour
This fascinating 90 minute journey of discovery begins in town where Rotorua's rich history unfolds before you as we tour local landmarks and share stories and legends of the past. City highlights include Lake Rotorua, Mokoia Island, Geothermal Sulphur Point, Government Gardens, The Museum and Blue Baths. We then venture out to a spectacular lakes area for "Splashdown" entry onto Lake Tikitapu (Blue Lake) before heading to Lake Okareka, a small lakeside community known for its abundant bird life and million dollar homes, and where the ducks elevation affords magnificent views of Mt Tarawera. Your homeward leg takes you past Rotorua's burgeoning Te Whakarewarewa Forest, back to the sulphurous aroma of Rotorua. You'll learn about the history of Rotorua, view fabulous scenery and have great fun along the way.
Tarawera & Lakes Tour
This 2 hour tour departs from the centre of town and heads straight out for "Splashdown" into Lake Okareka where we view abundant bird life and million dollar homes. The journey continues past the sacred Lake Rotokakahi (Green Lakes) onto Lake Tarawera where we view the magnificent volcanic domes of Mount Tarawera and hear stories of the devastating Tarawera eruption of 1886. Your return trip brings into view Te Wairoa (Buried Village) before splashing down into Lake Tikitapu (Blue Lake), your third lake visit, before heading back into town. This tour is very history orientated covering Maori Migration to New Zealand (and then Rotorua), revealing the mystery of some of Rotorua's more famous legends, and shedding light on the history of tourism in this fascinating geothermal and cultural centre.
