Rainbow Springs Kiwi Wildlife Park has been a favourite destination since 1932.  Spread over 22 acres of parkland, Rainbow Springs offers a truly unique experience, and is a must-see for anyone who wants to get to know New Zealand’s wonderful environment and animals, both during the day and at night.  Your ticket allows unlimited entry for 24 hours so there is no additional charge to visit the nocturnal animals.

There’s a whole new world to discover at Rainbow Springs Kiwi Wildlife Park.  You’ll see live kiwi foraging for food – during the day in a nocturnal house, and at night in an outdoor kiwi enclosure!  Wander through the native bush, and see Rainbow trout swimming freely in the crystal-clear spring fed mineral pools and feed them if you wish.  Get up close and personal with many of NZ’s curious native birds as you walk through the aviaries and share their habitat. 

At 8.30am every morning, visitors can join the Early Bird tour, meeting the park ranger and giving out breakfast for the birds – a great chance to see them up close! 

One of the most popular ‘locals’ at Rainbow Springs is the kiwi.  Visitors can learn about kiwi and kiwi conservation with a visit to Kiwi Encounter.  This is the largest purpose-built kiwi hatchery in New Zealand, having released over 800 kiwi chicks back into the wild.  If you’re visiting Rainbow Springs, you can upgrade your ticket to include the 30 minute ‘behind the scenes’ tour of the hatchery (for a small fee which goes straight back to the kiwi programme).  This unique facility allows visitors an insight into the process of kiwi conservation – from kiwi egg collection in the wild, incubation, hatching and then raising of the kiwi until it’s ready to be released back into the wild.  Rainbow Springs is a must-visit attraction in Rotorua.
