All the trips offer outstanding New Zealand scenery with a varying amounts of challenging water water thrown in. For those who love adrenalin thrills, then definitely check out our Kaituna Waterfall trip, you’ll get a BUZZ going over the highest commercially rafted waterfall (a MASSIVE 7 metres).
- Kaituna Waterfall (Grade 5) - The Kaituna boasts the Highest Commercially Rafted Waterfall (7m) in the World. In fact, there are 3 waterfalls among the 14 rapids; 2 smaller waterfalls to practise on before attacking the 7-meter drop named Tutea Falls. Talk about white water! Price: $89.00 per person
- Rangitaiki River Run (Grade 4) - If you are looking for a full day adventure on the water, with loads of variety, then the Rangitaiki is the river for you. You will experience 14km of thrilling rapids, time to enjoy the spectacular scenery, fun and laughter, followed by more thrilling rapids. Price: $120.00 per person
- Wairoa Experience (Grade 5) - The ultimate in Rafting in the region, the Wairoa is a full on grade 5 river and is only open 26 days a year (most Sundays during Summer). The water is released from the Ruahihi Power Station to allow the 2-hour Rafting experience of a lifetime. Price: $120.00 per person
SLEDGING (Prices quoted in NZ$, Subject to Change)
Join our professional team for an adventure you’ll never forget. Customers will receive a door-to-door Sledging (Hydro speeding) experience on the Lower part of the Upper Kaituna River.The river is lake fed and therefore reasonably warm (unlike snow-melt rivers) and is an extremely deep gorge meaning that there are very few rocks to negotiate. We pick up from Rotorua accommodation and drive to our private river base where customers are outfitted in quality equipment and receive comprehensive safety instruction.
Once on the water, all safety is repeated before beginning the 1 to 1.5-hour, at one with the environment, experience. Sledgers are in control of their own purpose-built sledge; manoeuvred by flippers on their feet. Because we have two sections of river available, our trips are tailored to the ability of a group. All customers view a slideshow of their experience before being returned home. Price: $120.00 per person.
GROUPS
Raftabout has multi-lingual safety brief cards, which show diagrams and explain our safety procedures in six different languages. Raftabout and Sledgeabout employ qualified guides from all over the rafting and sledging world. This enables us to have a pool of multi-lingual guides available to make sure all groups are catered to as best we can.
