Pakiri Beach Horse Rides is just 90 minutes from downtown Auckland city, less than 2 hours from Auckland International Airport and just minutes from Matakana Coast Wine Country.

Ride the trails of our ancestors. Visit the ancient Pa site of a paramount Maori chief, high above the Pacific Ocean. Experience a breathtaking view that reaches far and wide to the horizon. Tread the paths of his people. And enjoy the company of us, his descendants, and the stories and food we will share with you.

Horse Rides

  • Day Rides - Our rides depart daily at 10:00am and 2:00pm year round, and at 12:00pm, 4:00pm and 7:00pm in summer (October to April).
  • Overnight Safari - Imagine one or more nights experiencing the freedom of the trail and the sights, sounds and sensations of nature as we ride over sand and hill, through forest and bush. Leave the busy world behind as you explore nature on horseback.
  • Pub to Pub (3 days) - Ride the trails of the ancestors, enjoy the outlook of a paramount Maori chief and visit his ancient Pa site high above the Pacific ocean. Tread the paths of his people and sleep in their sacred house. Enjoy the company of his descendents and the stories and food they share with you.Most of all enjoy the freedom of travelling on horseback in this special place.
  • Rahui's Ride (3 days) - Rahui Te Kiri was the daughter of the paramount chief Te Kiri whose territory included the land this ride goes over. Rahui owned all this land and lived at Hauturu (Little Barrier Island) and Leigh until her 102nd. Year. This ride can be adapted to a 2 day and 1 or 2 nights with appropriate price adjustment
  • Warrior Trail (5 days)
  • Matakana Trail (6 days)
  • Coast to Coast Ride (7 days) - An epic adventure following the mighty Hoteo River on horseback. From the calm white sands and blue waters of the Pacific Ocean in the east, ride to the black sands of the wild West Coast and the Tasman Sea. And whose descendents have developed New Zealand into the country it is today. Take note of the landmarks and high points used by Manuhiri to mark the boundaries of their lands. Enjoy farmland and bush and the pine forests from which products are exported all over the world.

    Your hosts Sharley and Laly Haddon, descendants of the great Ngati Wai Chief Te Kiri, have farmed in this area for the greater part of their lives and between them have years of experience in all equestrian disciplines.
