Mercury Bay Estate is owned by John and Lorraine Donelley and was formed from the vineyard established by Alex Morcom in 1996 (named Shakespeare Cliff Vineyard and later spawned Cooks Beach Vineyard). The vineyard originally contained plantings of Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay & Sauvignon Blanc.

The vineyard, of course, took its original name from one of the landmarks in the area, the stunning Shakespeare Cliff. Other well known attractions such as Hot Water Beach, Hahei and Cathedral Cove are close by. There's also a well known marine reserve in the bay which attracts many divers.

Our Wines - Our remarkable wines have been delicately crafted to resonate the vibrant beauty of the Coromandel's Mercury Bay.

We focus on making high quality wines from the vineyards at Cooks Beach and Hawkes Bay, with much of the work done by the hands of local experts, ensuring each vine gets the attention it deserves. Our harvest is hand picked to make sure the grapes reach the winery in the best possible condition with the highest possible quality.

The Cooks Beach area provides a perfectly suited environment for our grapes - we are protected from the prevailing westerly weather by the ranges and our soil is well matched to growing Pinot Noir grapes. Our land is north facing, gently sloping towards the Mercury Bay and picks up great sun and heat through late summer for optimum ripening, producing great wines available for tasting at our unique Coromandel, Cellar Door.

Cellar Door - Our cellar door is open from 10.00am to 5.00pm daily during summer months (Labour Weekend to Easter) and from 11:30pm to 4:00pm daily for the remainder of the year. Phone 07 866 4066 for opening hours at other times.

Overlooking the vineyard and the sparkling waters of the Mercury Bay, we are the only cellar door in Whitianga / Mercury Bay / Coromandel offering wine tastings!

Special Occasions - The Cellar Door is located within the vineyard providing stunning north facing views over the vineyard and the picturesque Mercury Bay. The venue is the ideal location, providing guests with special intimate space in which to sit back and enjoy their special occasion or even as the perfect vineyard / beach backdrop for your photo shoot.

Our selection of wines are available to complement your event - whether its a wedding ceremony, reception, birthday or simply a day in the vines - with competitive prices, we offer a supply and return facility where we guarantee a buy back of any Mercury Bay Estate wine not consumed, for the same price.
