Just 2 hours drive north of Auckland and 12 km west of Whangarei, lies Lake House offering relaxing, purpose-built accommodation for 4 guests in a beautiful lakeside setting on the slopes of Maungatapere Mountain.
Although this homestay is of modern design, it is furnished with English and European antiques and paintings collected over the years by the owners prior to their return to NZ. One of the rooms is specially equipped to also be suitable for disabled guests. The garden has been built from scratch with respect for the surrounding area and contains native plants and trees that attract birdlife. The lake is home to a variety of ducks and also black swans visit occasionally. Cattle graze the adjoining paddock.
The large swimming pool and sun bathing deck is north-facing and overlooks the man-made irrigation lake and native bush. Horse riding, golf, deep sea fishing and diving are all available within a short distance. We are close to the kauri forests on the west coast and to wonderful east coast beaches and bush and mountain walks.
Whatever your interest, come to Lake House to enjoy the beautiful setting, the splendid food and the friendly company.
Accommodation
Lake House has two guest suites having complete privacy and elevated expansive views of the lake and bush. Both have double doors leading to a private deck furnished with table and chairs. The rooms have flat screen TV and a DVD and CD player, a fridge with soft drinks and beer, a range of teas and plunger coffee, home made biscuits, bathrobes and pool towels and a selection of books and magazines. Beds are made with Egyptian cotton sheets and pillowcases or antique Irish linen pillowcases if desired. Both bathrooms have fine Egyptian cotton towels, lavender toiletries, hair dryer and heated towel rails and mirrors.
The Green Room has a super kingsize bed and a bathroom with bath with power shower over. The Yellow room has super kingsize bed or twin king singles and the bathroom has a full walk-in shower area with power-shower and is suitable for disabled guests.
Guests have the use of the large drawing room for tea or drinks or just to curl up in with a good book. There is also a large library of books, DVDs and CDs and wireless internet link for guests’ computers.
