We'll entertain you with salty yarns and provide you with an intimate environmental and historical perspective of the Eastern Bay of Plenty. Tours are often enlivened by wildlife encounters and the chance to participate in a some unusual kayak activities. If you wear sunnies, then keep 'em strapped on !
We offer four distinct tours :
OHIWA EXPLORER -our tours depart from Fisherman's Wharf, Harbour Rd, Port Ohope, just 10 minutes from Whakatane. We take a trip out to one of the Islands, exploring some hidden corners en route and picnic in a secluded spot, enjoying the great scenery and tranquility of this beautiful natural harbour. Time required - two and a half hours.
WILD BLUE YONDER ... the Bay of Plenty coastline presents magical opportunities for ocean kayaking. There are plenty of options, but our favourite tour takes us along the coast between Ohope and Whakatane. Departing from the sands of Ohope Beach or from the Whakatane Heads, there are sensational coastal vistas and a visit to the eternally beautiful Otarawairere Bay is a must. Time required - two and a half hours
WHALE ISLAND KAYAKING - Departing from the Whaktane boat ramp, close to the Wharf, we take the kayaks by boat, on a twenty minute, 9km trip across the sparkling Pacific to the aptly named Whale Island.
In one of the island's sheltered bays we launch the kayaks and after a briefing on safety and paddling skills, set out on a two hour guided tour around Whale Island.
Our guides provide you with a commentary on the history and natural environment, whilst you enjoy spectacular coastal scenery. We expect regular encounters with fur seals and penguins and when conditions are favourable, the chance to paddle inside sea caves. After two hours of exploring, we return to the boat for some refreshment, perhaps a swim and a few yarns from Joe the boat skipper before the return trip to Whakatane. You'll love it !
MOONLIGHT KAYAKING - Two hour guided tours of the enchanting Ohiwa Harbour. On three evenings per month as the sun goes down and the tide rolls in across the harbour we depart from our home on Ohiwa's shores.
Glide across glassy waters as the sun slips down behind the hills to the West. Paddle beneath majestic pohutakawa trees, their branches reaching down to touch the water and marvel at the magnificence of the moonrise as it climbs from the eastern horizon and bathes you in its glow.

We finish this tour with a cosy camp fire and a hot beverage, sitting back and enjoying the moon across the water and the wonder of the stars above.
