Jet Boating is a truly unique way of seeing the lower Waimakariri’s braided river system which is constantly changing and ever challenging. Jet Thrills’ experienced drivers, speed and spin in places sometimes only centimetres deep. Our fleet of Hamilton Jet boats make easy work of the swift flowing river as it rushes from the Southern Alps to the sea.

The translation of Waimakariri is ‘cold water’, it is also very clean, which makes it very popular for salmon and trout fishing. On any of the tours provided by Jet Thrills through the Waimakariri Regional Park, one of New Zealand’s newest parks, it is possible to see the many examples of birdlife that make this area their home – Wrybills, Spur-winged Plover and Black Shag.

Four tours are available 7 days a week from the exciting 30 minute ‘Braided Blast’ and the 60 minute ‘Blast Plus’, to the 90 minute Jet Trek an amazing combination of Horse Trek and ‘Braided Blast’ with Waimak River Horse Treks. If you want to get off the ground to see some more of the river and surrounding area then the Heli Jet is definitely the way to do it.

Jet Thrills operates daily from below the State Highway 1 Bridge, 15 minutes north of Christchurch.

How to find us:

Travelling north on State Highway 1, take the first off-ramp after crossing the Waimakiriri River. Turn right onto the Tram Road overbridge then right again onto the main North Road. Enter the Waimakariri Regional Park on the corner of Main North Road and Wrights Rd (just after the Challenge Service Station), turn left into Hamilton Quay and follow it around to the right, until you get to the jet boat ramp beside the river.

Bookings are essential to avoid disappointment.  We require a minimum of 2 adult passengers for a tour to commence.

Cameras and videos are welcome but we cannot take responsibility for them.
