Awahuri - Taupo Garden Lodge, Lake Taupo Bed & Breakfast
This Lodge is a small, elegant, fishing Inn, beside the mountain-fed Waikato River, surrounded by a beautiful 2.4acre garden and only 2k from town. The Two-Suite accommodation each with ensuite bathrooms is private, generous and has very comfortable beds, with Persian rugs and oil paintings in a restorative atmosphere.
The Lodge theme is traditional; incorporating original paintings, NZ 'rimu' wood trim and panelling, a lovely collection of hand knotted oriental carpets, and a superb Danemann baby grand piano. A massive fireplace is used every night in cold weather.
William and Suzanne Hindmarsh started planting the garden in 1964. Some of the trees are more than 60 feet high now, with masses of birds, Rhododendrons, Camellias and perennials around ponds and a waterfall - all creating a palpable, stunning tranquillity.
Accommodation
The Lodge - The main living and dining rooms are in a 16 x 38 foot, open-planned space, well-furnished and traditionally comfortable, with the fireplace as a warm focus in winter. In summer, chairs are turned through 180 degrees to view the garden and pools through 12 foot sliding doors and windows - bringing the outside in very effectively. Overall, the Lodge and its outside environment are well integrated.
The Garden Suite - The Garden Suite is spacious and secure, with a superking sized, very comfortable bed, an ensuite bathroom (exclusive to you) and a single room next door to that (for chauffeurs, chaperones, nannies, snorers and the like!). A refrigerator (with complimentary wine) and real coffee and tea facilities are also in this room. No cooking features are offered.
Also there's a lovely double bay window in the main room for morning sun, correspondence and reading.
The Garden Suite is private and quiet with its own entrance and close parking all on ground level. It is also suitable for partly disabled persons and surrounded by gorgeous garden.
The Heron Suite - The Heron Suite is inside the Lodge, generous and comfortable with Persian rugs, a sofa and table, together with coffee and tea facilities and large ensuite bathroom.
