About Skytrek Paragliding School
Skytrek Paragliding School, based out of the Flight Park, Queenstown, has the best training facilities in New Zealand. There are 50 acres of rolling grassy slopes, plenty of room to run, ground handle and land. It's a great place to relax between flights as you can get a drink or snack from the café and watch instructional videos on the wide-screen television.
We have one of the highest take-offs in New Zealand for student pilots, from the Coronet Peak Skifield, with amazing views of Queenstown's lakes and valleys. With our experienced instructors, high international standards and quality new equipment we can offer you the best learning experience ever.
The sport of paragliding (Parapente) was born in the Alps in the mid 1980s by climbers who were looking for a quick and convenient way to descend from mountain tops. A common misconception links Paragliding to parachuting.
The sport is much closer to soaring disciplines such as hang gliding. We're suspended under a soft wing, inflated by ram air, sitting in a very comfortable harness which, along with basic understanding and skill, allows us to stay aloft for several hours at a time.
Paragliding is a rather young sport, dynamically evolving every year in terms of equipment and fellowship worldwide. Of all aviation sports, paragliding is the simplest, most affordable and safest form of flying. It creates no polution. There is need for fuel or to get ATC clearance to take to the sky (We do however, respect air regulations!).
The entire gear fits in a backpack which weighs 10-25 Kg and can be prepared for flight in 5 minutes.
Learning to paraglide is easy, fast and accessible for anyone 15-65 years young.
