TONGARIRO
VOLCANIC ADVENTURES
Tongariro Volcanic Adventures is a new transport service based at
National Park. We run a daily bus to the Tongariro Crossing (NZ
best 1 day hike - a 17 km traverse of the Volcanoes of North Islands
Central Plateau.) In winter we transport people to and from the
Whakapapa ski field / Top of the Bruce road.
The
fleet consists of:
- Isuzu Journey 22 seater
- Hino Rainbow 33 seater + 12 standing
- Nissan 36 seater + 9 standing
- Mitsubishi Fuso 36 seater
Our
shuttle to the Tongariro Crossing leaves daily (weather permitting)
in the morning outside the backpackers to take you to the start
of the track at Mangatepopo road end. On request we can pick you
up at your lodge in National Park/Whakapapa. The return pick-up
at Ketetahi road end is in the afternoon. Cost: NZ$25 per person/return,
bookings preferred the night before. From ~ July to October the
Tongariro Crossing is snow covered, winter equipment (crampons,
ice axe, etc,) is needed and the hike is only possible with a guide,
cost NZ$90 per person/return.
The
service to the ski area assists you whenever the Bruce road is restricted
due to snow and ice or it is not desirable for you to run your vehicles
from National Park or Whakapapa Village to the Top of the Bruce
road.
