Matakana Country
Park is located just one hour north of Auckland, in the Rodney district
which is one of the fastest growing tourism areas in New Zealand.
Surrounded by
lush valleys in one of the most beautiful areas of the North Island,
the Park hosts a wide range of activities from pony rides, animal
experience, miniature ride-on train and adventure playground for
children to the crafts co-op, saturday farmers market, the RD6 restaurant,
country kitchen cafe and art gallery for adults and families.
Matakana
Gallery & Design
The gallery was established October 2004 where national and local
artists exhibit their works for purchase. Works to please the eye,
intrigue the mind and feed the soul are displayed for viewing in
a 170 square metre gallery. An eclectic mix of works by dedicated
artists. Paintings, sculpture (wood and stone) glass, multi-media,
clay, ceramic and jewellery. A very high standard of quality is
maintained. Both solo artist and group exhibitions are shown.
Craft Co-op
Shop
The Craft co-op has been a wonderful addition to the Matakana Country
Park. An established Co-op of 16 years. It consists of more than
ninety local and regional crafts people who sell their goods on
a commission basis. We are proud to offer an abundance of New Zealand
made goods varied from hand knitted jumpers, jewellery, woodware,
handmade paper, paintings, lots of sewing, cards, pottery and much
more.
Adventure
Playground
Matakana Country Park commissioned Logan Brewer, one of New Zealand's
foremost designers, to design a playground with appeal to children.
This playground has created a great interest to many children and
the theme of a balloon and a galleon within the complex has been
provided. In addition to this, there are a number of unique playhouses
included in this wonderful area.
Talk to us if
you'd like to book a table at the playground area for a children's
party or if you'd like a quote for pony rides to be included. We
have a beautiful "unicorn" who just loves parties!!!
Farmyard
ANIMAL Experience
There are ducks, geese, and chickens roaming at the Park as well
as numerous horses who'll enjoy a chat at the fence! We also have
a wonderful "Animal Experience" where you can pat and
feed Guanacos (relative of the Llama), pet sheep, ponies, horses,
goats, and our gorgeous calf Charlie. Entry is now FREE! A staff
member may not always be present at the animal experience area so
we ask that you always supervise children to ensure no animals are
chased or hurt in any way.
