Hazeldene
Lodge is a beautiful, architecturally designed home
planned specifically for the comfort of guests.
Hazeldene Lodge offers luxury resort accommodation situated by Lake
Taupo in the Central Plateau of New Zealand. Our homestay offers bed
and breakfast (b and b) with optional evening meals by prior arrangement.
Set
on 2 acres of land on the brow of a hill in a picturesque rural
setting, yet only a short, pretty 7 kilometre (about 4 1/2 miles)
drive from town.
Your
hosts, Tony and Judy, operated a very successful homestay in Devon,
England. They were planning on retiring in New Zealand, but found
they missed meeting new people, so opened their charming home to
guests here too.
The
views from every room are spectacular, and the twinkling lights
of Taupo township at night are gorgeous.
Although
the house is now two years old, great care has been taken to plant
a variety of native and English trees and shrubs, which are now
flourishing under the clever hands of Judy. Both Judy and Tony have
created a pond at the top of the hill with a meandering stream and
waterfalls to a larger pond at the bottom of the hill near to the
entrance gates. They have many fish in the top pond, which is now
overlooked by two typically styled English summer houses with a
large deck in between, where you can sit with your coffee, a Devon
Cream Tea or a glass of wine while you take in the breath-taking
views of Lake Taupo and Mount Tauhara. The pond and stream have
been planted with a variety of English and native bushes and shrubs
which provides added colour.
