Country Lake Tours Franz Josef operate sightseeing and wildlife eco-cruises
on Lake Mapourika (Flower of the Dawn), located near Franz Josef Village
on New Zealand's West Coast.
Glacier Country
Lake Tours operate up to 6 trips per day, and will collect you from
your Franz Josef accommodation for the short journey to Lake Mapourika
and their cruise vessel, the Hanna-K.
Operating small
tours with seating for 24 passengers, the tour vessel offers loads
of large viewing windows and a covered outdoor viewing platform,
with opportunities to view the native flora, fauna and bird life.
A complimentary hot drink and light snack is included on this 90
minute Lake Tour.
Lake Mapourika's
beauty is truly unique and reflects everything in a mirror-like
image. On clear days you can enjoy the breath-taking views of Mt
Cook. On this tour you can view some of New Zealands native
birds including Kotuku (White Heron) and New Zealand Wood Pigeon.
Visitors can also enjoy a variety species of New Zealand flora and
fauna including the Rata with its brilliant display of red flowers
during January and February, Kamahi flowers, native Fuschia, Coprosmas,
Clematis and magical rainforests.
Lake Mapourika
is also home to Brown Trout, Salmon and the rarest Kiwi "Rowi"
where there are only 60 mateing pairs in the world. DOC do their
"Kiwi recovery" from the far side of the lake.
