The Hawke's
Bay region
Hawke's Bay's long warm summers make it an ideal tourist destination.
It is home to international award winning wineries, vineyards and
restaurants. The twin cities - Napier which is world renowned for
it's Art Deco buildings and Hastings for its spanish style - are
both just a short 15 or 20minute drive from the cottage.
A wide variety
of artists and craftspeople live and exhibit in the bay, many with
home based studios and workshops you are welcome to visit. There
is an established Art Trail.
The coastal
Haumoana and Te Awanga region (in which the cottage is located)
is home to many of these attractions, including the large gannet
colony on Cape Kidnappers, one of the largest such mainland bird
sanctuaries in the world.
The weather
lends itself to a great array of sports - swimming, hang gliding,
etc. There is great trout fishing in the rivers, sea charters for
fishing or just pleasure, internationally recognised golf courses
and local courses as well ....
Hawkes Bay also
hosts several summer weekend festivals.
