Built
in the mid-1880s and renovated in the Edwardian style around 1914,
Arles offers a warm welcome, comfortable beds, spacious rooms and
cosy central heating in the cooler months.

2.5 hr from Wellington; 1.5 hr from National Park
3 hr from Taupo; 2 hr from New Plymouth.
Bedrooms have
duvets, tea/coffee facilities, hair dryer, electric blankets, fresh
flowers and toiletries. The rimu-panelled lounge is cosy in winter
with the wood fire just the place to relax with a complimentary
wine or sherry and a book from the extensive library.
During the warmer
months, you can swim in the saltwater pool (built in the 1950s but
recently refurbished) or take forty winks on the wide verandah or
under one of the old established trees.
Feast on a breakfast
of home-made delights including jams and marmalades from the fruit
in the garden, freshly-baked breads and cake or muffins, and your
choice of eggs with all the trimmings.
Guests have
their own fully-equipped kitchen (giving the choice of self-catering
lunch and dinner), laundry, barbecue and broadband/wireless internet
all complimentary.

The gardens
contain many long-established trees including the southernmost Queensland
kauri, the 'trampled' oak, two huge Norfolk Island pines and a lovely
lilly-pilly tree. There are also maples, magnolias, camellias, azaleas,
rhododendrons, palms, a stand of bamboo and a range of NZ native
trees including rimu, karaka, kowhai, rata, puka, titoki, puriri
and tree ferns. Awake to the birdsong, watch native wood pigeons
drink from the pond while breakfasting and listen to the morepork
at night its paradise!
